This lecture aims to present the concept of bereavement and explain its causes, the phases involved during the process and clinical issues regarding bereavement, as well as the problem of bereavement in COVID-19 times.

1. Origin and causes of bereavement

2. Phases of bereavement according to Bowlby.

3. Different kinds of bereavement. Bereavement caused by the pandemia of COVID-19. The acute, transitory bereavement due to losses caused by lockdown. The required process of adaptation to the new circumstances. Lack of reorganization may become a chronic process and cause difficulties in attachment in what may be called Frozen Process of Bereavement in those who are not able to see the body of their dead beloved figures of attachment and are only notified of their death.
